A Kazakh citizen was sentenced to 4.5 years for participating in the war in Ukraine

A Kazakhstani has been sentenced for participating in the war in Ukraine. This was reported by the Ulytau Regional Court, Informburo reports .

According to the case materials, he decided to take part in military operations in the fall of 2022. From Zhezkazgan, the man went to Petropavlovsk, then crossed the Kazakh-Russian border by taxi, after which he contacted a representative of the PMC and went to a training camp, where he signed an agreement to join their ranks. The court said that he was promised 240 thousand rubles (1.2 million tenge) for participating in the conflict, and in the event of his death, his friend would be transferred five million rubles (25 million tenge).

The Kazakhstani participated in military operations from December 2022 to July 2023. He returned to Kazakhstan that same year. The man fully admitted his guilt.

The court found him guilty under Article 172 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Participation in Foreign Armed Conflicts" and sentenced him to four and a half years of imprisonment. He will serve his sentence in a medium-security penal institution. The sentence has not entered into legal force.
