The Caspian Sea is receding: The scale of shallowing was shown from above in Aktau
Videographer Nurken Tazhibay showed the scale of the shallowing of the Caspian Sea in Aktau. As the publication Lada.kz writes , over the past few years, the embankment in the 7A microdistrict has noticeably changed: the piers that previously stood in the water are now several dozen meters from the water's edge. A similar picture can be seen along the entire coastline.
"Scientists say that this phenomenon is natural and quite normal. They call it the 'breathing of the Caspian' (there is no deep study or confirmation of this theory yet), and they say that after some time the sea will return, so they categorically advise against building on the territory freed from water ," the publication writes.
Let us recall that back in November 2022, the head of state ordered the creation of an institute for the study of the Caspian Sea. To date, this order has not been fulfilled – the institute still does not exist physically. Its legal registration was announced in January 2024, but the organization has not yet started working.
"The hitch occurred due to the procedure of transferring property from the balance sheet of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation to the balance sheet of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. The former have waived all obligations, and the latter – the Ministry of Ecology – have not yet fully accepted them, in connection with which there is still no one to ask for the opening of the institute," writes Lada.
