Avatar director James Cameron said that the new installment, Fire and Ash, will be longer than the previous ones. He shared this in his interview for Empire.

Initially, Avatar was planned to be divided into three parts. According to Cameron, due to the intense plot, the third part, Fire and Ash, might not have appeared at all. But during the work, the director realized that it would be better to divide the films into more parts.

"We had too many great ideas packed into the first act of the second film. The film was moving like a bullet train, and we weren't going deep enough into the characters. So I said we need to split it up. Even though The Path of Water was an epic in itself, the third film will be a little longer than the second," Cameron explained.

After the first film, screenwriter Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, known for Planet of the Apes, Jurassic World and Mulan, joined the trilogy to work on the main characters.

"The characters had to breathe. That's why movies are so much more than just a moving story and a great spectacle," Amanda Silver emphasizes.

In the third part of "Avatar", the plot will tell about the journey of Jake Sully and Neytiri to other planets of the Alpha Centauri system. According to James Cameron, the first viewers rated "Fire and Ash" as the most emotional and best part of the franchise.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is set to premiere on December 19, 2025.

By the way, this is not the first long-running work of the director. James Cameron is known for the film "Titanic", which lasts three hours and 14 minutes, and the second part of "Avatar" is two minutes shorter.
