Trump and Zelensky held a telephone conversation

US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a telephone conversation that lasted about an hour.

Trump called the conversation "very good."

"Much of the discussion was based on yesterday's conversation with President Putin to coordinate the requests and needs of Russia and Ukraine. We are on the right track, and I will ask Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz to provide a precise description of the items discussed. That statement will be released shortly," Trump wrote on the Truth social network.

Zelensky called the negotiations positive.

"I had a positive, meaningful and frank conversation with President Trump. We agreed that Ukraine and the United States must continue to work together to achieve a real end to the war and a lasting peace. We believe that together with America, with President Trump and under American leadership , a lasting peace can be achieved this year ," Zelensky wrote on the X social network following the talks.

He also noted that Trump shared details of his conversation with Putin and key issues.

"One of the first steps towards a complete end to the war could be to stop attacks on energy and other civilian infrastructure. I supported this step, and Ukraine confirmed that we are ready to implement it," the Ukrainian president noted.

Recall that on Tuesday, Trump and Putin had a telephone conversation that lasted about 2.5 hours. As Radio Azattyk writes , following the talks, the Kremlin and the White House issued statements that placed slightly different emphasis.

  • The Kremlin statement claimed that Putin had raised the issue of suspending military supplies to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire.
  • Trump, however, stated that the issue of supplies was not discussed at all.
  • During the conversation, Putin promised that Russia would temporarily refrain from striking Ukrainian energy facilities. The Russian Defense Ministry even stated that Russian drones already flying toward such facilities were shot down by Russian air defense systems.

In turn, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Moscow of violating its promise, noting that energy facilities in Ukraine were also hit by the Russian strike on Wednesday night.
