The Almaty Akimat's Department of Culture announced that the city zoo will not be moved to Alatau. This is reported by the publication "Vlast".

“The Almaty Zoo continues its work in its current location; there are no plans to move to another city,” the statement said.

Earlier in the day, the Almaty regional administration said it had held a meeting with government officials to discuss moving the zoo to a new city. However, the statement did not specify whether any decision had been made on the matter.

The Almaty Department of Culture emphasized that the zoo is awaiting a large-scale reconstruction.

"This year, it is planned to announce a competition for the development of design and estimate documentation. The reconstruction will be carried out in stages until 2028. The work carried out as part of the planned reconstruction of the zoo will significantly improve the conditions for keeping animals and increase the comfort of visitors," the statement says.

The Almaty Zoo, founded in 1937, is the largest in Kazakhstan.

Alatau, located 45 kilometers from Almaty, is planned to be turned into a "smart city" with a developed tourist infrastructure. Its current population is slightly more than 50 thousand people, including residents of the villages that recently became part of it.
