The far-right Alternative for Germany party adopted an election manifesto at its congress, but delegates refused to add a clause condemning Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Tagesschau reports.

Bundestag member Albrecht Glaser proposed adding a clause condemning Russian aggression to the party's program. He expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the 85-page document does not criticize Russia's actions in the war. In his addition, the politician noted that Russia violated numerous norms of international law on the protection of civilians during the war, and also called for condemnation of the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

However, about 69% of the 600 delegates rejected the proposal.

The approved Alternative for Germany program mentions the war in Ukraine only superficially, without criticizing Russia. The document notes: "The war in Ukraine has shaken the European peace order. We see the future of Ukraine as a neutral state outside NATO and the EU."

  • On January 11, 2025, in the German city of Riesa, thousands of people came out on the morning of January 11 to protest against the two-day AfD party conference.
