Media: Israel and Hamas agree on ceasefire
Israel and Hamas have agreed to cease fire in the Gaza Strip. This was reported by Vlast with reference to the BBC. Russian Service. The information was also confirmed by the Prime Minister of Qatar during a press conference. It is also known that Hamas has agreed to release some of the Israeli hostages.
An agreement on a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages was reached at meetings between the Qatari Prime Minister and Hamas representatives and separately with Israeli representatives.
The ceasefire will go into effect on January 19, but there is a condition: the Israeli government needs to agree. Most Israeli ministers are set to back the agreement on Thursday. The Israeli president called on the government to accept the deal. Details of the agreement have not yet been disclosed.
According to preliminary data, the first phase of the ceasefire will last 42 days. During this time, Israeli troops will gradually leave the Gaza Strip. According to the Qatari prime minister, 33 Israeli hostages should also be released during the first phase. In the second phase, Israel and Hamas will discuss steps to completely end the war. This phase will also last 42 days (if agreements are not reached during this time, the ceasefire will be extended). As part of the third phase, the remaining hostages will be returned and a plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip will be discussed.
For Palestinians, the deal means an end to the bombing and the return of hundreds of thousands of displaced people to their homes.
