TikTok is no longer available to users in the US
The TikTok app has become unavailable to users in the United States. The Supreme Court has rejected the company's appeal, and the final decision on the future of the social network will be made by the new administration of Donald Trump, EuroNews reports .
The TikTok social network, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, has ceased operations in the United States. Users received notifications about the service's closure, and the app itself disappeared from the App Store. The Downdetector platform has registered more than 8.2 thousand complaints about the app's unavailability.
The US Supreme Court upheld a ban on TikTok that went into effect on January 19. US authorities have expressed concerns about the potential use of user data for Chinese propaganda purposes, but ByteDance has repeatedly denied the allegations, stressing its independence.
The White House said the final decision on TikTok's future will be made by the new Trump administration, which will take office on January 20. Trump himself assured that the issue of resuming the social network's work will be considered first.
TikTok, known for its short videos, launched in 2018 and has attracted around 170 million users in the US. However, the app has been regularly criticized and scrutinized by US authorities, which eventually led to its outright ban.
