Temirlan Yensebek's trial to be held online on February 14

The main trial of the author of the satirical public Qaznews24 Temirlan Yensebek is scheduled for February 14. At the same time, the pre-trial investigation was completed on January 31. This was reported by Radio Azattyk with reference to lawyer Zhanara Balgabaeva.

"We ourselves are in shock. Even the [court] office was surprised. The prosecutor's office and investigators were in a hurry. On February 3, I sent a petition, and they had three days to consider it. But after I sent it, a few minutes later they refused [to satisfy the petition]. And 10 minutes later the case went to the prosecutor, and a few days later it went to court. All the deadlines are not met, or they try to meet the bare minimum. All the deadlines passed very quickly," Balgabaeva said.

According to her, the pre-trial investigation into this case was completed on January 31.

Thus, the State Security Service of Temirlan Yensebek will begin on February 14 in the Almalinsky Court of Almaty.

Let us recall that Temirlan was arrested on January 17. He is suspected of violating Article 174 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Incitement of social, national, tribal, racial, class or religious hatred" through publication on social networks.

Punishment under this article provides for a fine in the amount of two to seven thousand MCI or restriction or imprisonment for two to seven years.

According to the lawyer of the detainee, the reason for the arrest was the comic song "You, orystar", which Yensebek added to a satirical post about the Russian TV presenter Tina Kandelaki. After Temirlan's arrest, journalists and activists in different cities of Kazakhstan began to go out on single pickets with the slogans "Satire is the best".
