The Almaty Zoo is planned to be updated in accordance with international standards, Informburo reports with reference to the institution. The project is envisaged as part of urban development. As stated by the institution's press service, they want to improve the zoo according to international standards.

"This year, it is planned to announce a competition for the development of design and estimate documentation. After completing the necessary competitive procedures and receiving an expert opinion, in accordance with the law on public procurement, the results of the competition will become publicly available," the Almaty City Department of Culture reported.

The Almaty Zoo is the oldest in Kazakhstan. It opened in 1937. And in 2016, after a series of scandals, human rights activists began to take a close look at it. Now the department is interested in improving the conditions for keeping birds and animals in accordance with all international standards. They promised to complete the reconstruction work by 2028.
