On March 9, the Fuhlsbüttel Airport in Hamburg stopped operating due to an unexpected strike by ground handling staff, Kazinform reports , citing BILD.

The Verdi union announced the protest without prior warning. The airport administration quickly issued a notice of closure, and all flights were cancelled. Passengers were advised to check the status of their flights with their airlines. Many learned of the situation at the last minute via email and instant messengers.

However, DW notes that the union notified of the upcoming strike on March 7. The workers are demanding an 8% wage increase. In their statement, union representatives emphasized that the protest was caused by the employer's unwillingness to take into account the interests of employees and compromise.

The situation could become even more complicated: the Verdi union has already announced new strikes scheduled for March 11 at the airports of Berlin, Hanover and Frankfurt.
