Thailand legalizes same-sex marriage
A law legalizing same-sex marriages has come into force in Thailand, Current Time reports .
Earlier, the corresponding bill was approved by the government and parliament of the kingdom and signed by King Maha Vajiralongkorn.
The law defines marriage as a partnership between two people, rather than a man and a woman as was previously the case. Same-sex couples will be entitled to all benefits, as well as to adopt children. In addition, the law regulates the ownership and disposal of joint property of spouses. More than a thousand couples are expected to marry at the ceremony in Bangkok on January 23.
It should be noted that Thailand became the first country in Southeast Asia to legalize same-sex marriages. The Kingdom is also the 38th country in the world to legislate equal status for marriages between people of different sexes and same sexes.
By the way, last year Greece became the first Orthodox country to allow same-sex marriages.
