Ukrainian cyber specialists of the Main Intelligence Directorate attacked one of the largest Russian telecom operators, Megafon. A source in the Main Intelligence Directorate told about this.

As a result, many cities, including Moscow and St. Petersburg, began to experience disruptions in communications, the Internet, and the operation of mobile applications.

According to the source, Megafon is involved in supporting Russian aggression. After the attack on January 24, Russians complained en masse about network failures. Russian authorities called these technical problems, and the company said that their network was working “normally.”

Intelligence sources said the attack also affected other operators such as Yota and temporarily disabled access to popular services such as Steam, Twitch and Discord, which are used by the Russian military.

  • On December 12, 2024, the Main Intelligence Directorate “congratulated” Russians on Constitution Day with a banner on the State Duma website with the words “The country Russia does not exist.” And the website of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation was blocked.
  • From December 30 to January 1, the Main Intelligence Directorate “greeted” Russians with the New Year with a festive cyberattack on the oil sector, including LUKOIL.
