One billion cubic meters of water entered the Northern Aral Sea

Over three years, the area of the Northern Aral Sea has increased by 111 square kilometers, reaching 3,065 square kilometers today. This was reported by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.

The volume of water in the Northern Aral Sea has increased from 18.9 to 22.1 billion cubic meters, and by the end of 2025, it is expected to be 23.4 billion cubic meters. The reduction in water mineralization and the restoration of the populations of the reservoir's inhabitants makes it possible to extract 8 thousand tons of fish from it per year.

From October 2024 to January 2025, one billion cubic meters of water were sent to the Northern Aral Sea, which is 100 million cubic meters more than the previously planned volume. The reconstruction of the Kokaral Dam, which separates this reservoir from the dried-up Greater Aral, is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

4.4 million seedlings have been planted on the dried-up territory of the Great Aral Sea. By the end of 2025, the total area of greening of the Aral Sea bed should reach 1.1 million hectares.

Rice fields along the banks of the Northern Aral are leveled using laser planners, and water-saving technologies are being used more intensively. This allows more water to be released into the reservoir and increases crop yields.
