US Conducts Airstrikes on ISIS Militants in Somalia

The US military carried out airstrikes on positions of the terrorist group Islamic State (banned in Kazakhstan) in Somalia, killing a number of militants. This was announced by US President Donald Trump. Reuters reports that the attack took place in the Qal-Miskaad Mountains, part of the Golis Range. The strikes were aimed at ISIS bases.

"These killers we found hiding in caves were threatening the United States and our allies. The strikes destroyed the caves they were living in and killed many terrorists, while causing no harm to civilians," Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social.

New US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that "many militants were killed and no civilians were harmed."

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was briefed on the strike and expressed his "deepest gratitude" to the United States for its unwavering support in our shared fight against terrorism.

Earlier, late last year, the US and Israel launched missile strikes on Yemen in response to a Houthi attack on Tel Aviv that killed 16 people. The airstrikes targeted Houthi missile depots and command centres. The US military also shot down drones and a missile over the Red Sea.
